The Top 50 Things of 2013

It’s a little less then a week before Christmas and a little less than two weeks before the beginning of 2014.

This is crazy.

The older I get, the more I realize that time flies 1000000 mph and although I try my best to keep up with it, I just can’t.

As I reflect on the year’s shenanigans, adventures, lessons, and memories, I’ve realized that 2013 has been one bizarre year. It’s been a year of challenges, pushes out of my comfort zone, questions, growth, and really weird/catchy songs.

With that in mind, here is my {very incomplete} list of things I did/learned in 2013.

1. Miley Cyrus has officially, without a shadow of a doubt, lost it. (But her PR team is genius)
2. America still cares about England, deep down inside, because we were head over heels obsessed with the birth of the Royal Baby.
3. When the government shuts down, state universities do not (sigh).
4. During the regular semester, if it snows an inch, college classes are cancelled. If it’s finals week and it snows, may the odds be ever in your favor.
5. The words “selfie” and “twerk” are now in every day language and this saddens me.
6. I will vote for Kid President in 2025.
7. Who runs the world? Beyonce.
8. Note to self: never name your child after a GPS direction.
9. “YOLO” is still said almost every day and it needs to stop.
10. There are still good people in the world. Take the residents of “Gotham City” for Batkid as an example.
11. The Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park is awesome and worth the very long walk.
12. I don’t really think that’s what the fox says…
13. If you can’t dance, no need to fear: Harlem Shake is here.
14. Starbucks finds new ways to spell ‘Keri’ every day.
15. I’m only a fan of the Eagles when they win…thanks to Dunkin Donuts’ free coffee special. (PR genius)
16. I maintained a 3.6 cumulative GPA (woot woot)
17. Dean’s List, baby.
18. Contrary to popular belief, California Tortilla doesn’t have a projector…or a podium… or a microphone…or tablecloths.
(shout out to Natalie Hines for all the help that day!!!!)
19. Walgreens does.
20. I started teaching piano lessons and I love it.
21. I planned an entire PRSSA-UD event by myself and it was a success!
22. If you want a specific hashtag to trend, don’t have your event on the opening night of Catching Fire AND Throw Back Thursday.
23. I grew! …haha psych, I didn’t grow.
24. I realized that I want to pursue a career in sports public relations.
25. I tried sports reporting during a few football games and I LOVED it.
26. If you want to surf, make sure the waves aren’t too big BEFORE you drive to the beach at 4 am.
27. The Smurf became the unofficial mascot of UD.
28. UD CSC is the coolest internship ever (shout out to my girls: Natalie and Giulia and our awesome boss, Heather!)
29. 2013 is the year of the good movies: The Conjuring, Catching Fire, We’re the Millers, Man of Steel, Monsters U…just to name a few.
30. Good bye, pink ghetto flip phone. Hello, iPhone!
31. I watched the movie “Warrior” and realized that I want to be an MMA fighter when I grow up.
32. That dream ended shortly after the realization occurred.
33. I still have yet to attend a professional sporting event.
34. It’s possible to entertain 50 1st graders for an hour by playing Gangnam Style repeatedly.
35. I want to beatbox, solely because of the beatboxer in Pentatonix.
36. Three words: Blue Hen Guy.
37. I realized that sometimes, you have to forgive without ever receiving an apology.
38. A smile can truly change the world.
39. Everything you do or say is public relations.
40. I met some of the coolest people EVER.
41. Actually, now that I think about it, I met most of my friends in Gore Hall. How lame.
42. I’ve been stopped many times and been asked if I’m Blue Hen Keri/ Keri at the Game. The answer is yes.
43. Hashtag everything.
44. Vine is for those who are actually hilarious. Everyone else just revines and secretly wishes they had thought of the idea first.
45. Don’t do all of your Christmas shopping in one day. It’s a recipe for insanity.
46. Facebook is dying. Twitter is where it’s at.
47. #cuethemusic was the best 8 week text conversation ever.
48. “You should’ve known that…You should’ve known.” -#JOTS #UDHC
49. Writing honestly is the most painful form of healing.
50. The ups, the downs, the memories, the challenges, the lessons, the hurt, the laughs… one single thing was found in all of them. I learned and saw through every action I took that God always has a bigger plan and purpose for your life. Sometimes, it may not seem like it. It may seem like God is no where to be found, but every mountain you climb is really just a stepping stone, because with God, all things are possible. 2013 was a good year.

Bring it, 2014.

  1. Hey, Little Miss Keri – It’s your Grandmother, here. This post was one of your best yet! I don’t know how you came up with all those Top Things! I do have #51 for you, though. How about when the doorbell rang on Thanksgiving Day; someone answered it; and in walked Cousin-Susanna-from-Syracuse? That was a great moment that we ALL shared! I will always have that memory of two of my favorite young women embracing. LOVE YOU LOTS! SEE YOU SOON! TLGHG
