So my friends have a band. The Gnarly Stinkbugs. Oh yeah, they’re beast.
And every month, they have an Open Mic, where people can sign up for musical talent performances and have a great time. After all the performances are over, The Gnarly Stinkbugs have a mini concert of about…10 songs or so. They are AWESOME. They’ve written many of their songs and covered hits such as “Should I Stay or Should I Go?”, “Holiday,” “American Idiot,” etc.
Anyways… Yesterday, the January 2011 concert date, was their one year anniversary from starting their Open Mic tradition!
So exciting. :] It was a pretty epic time, I’ll tell you what!
And even though I have gone to Open Mic pretty much every month since August, I have never blogged about it. Weird, huh? Yeah…weird. So, I’m going to in this post. I’ll tell you a little bit about what happened last night…
I performed last night two times; once with my “little sister,” Nicole. We sang “What Do I Know of Holy?” by Addison Road. My friend, Kristen, recorded it for me on my camera. 🙂 If you want to check it out, click here!
My friend, Ryan, is known as Justin Bieber at our school. He pretty much rocks. He covered “Fall for You” by Secondhand Serenade…TOTALLY forgot to record it. :[ But, he also did a cover of “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz last night… His skills are amazing. Check them out here! Doesn’t he look like Justin Bieber? Yeah, he does…don’t lie to yourself. hehe.
After all the other performances had finished, my friend, Chris, and I ended Open Mic with “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michaelson. (Skip to the 30 second mark on the video for the actual song). here! Chris plays the ukulele (as seen in this video) and I am personally jealous of his talents. He’s a cool dude, what can I say?
So, needless to say, Happy 1 Year, Open Mic! May the talents keep coming so we can continue having an awesome musical event every month!
Gotta love monthly concert nights!
If you want to hear more about Open Mic, leave a comment and maybe I’ll blog about it again next month!
With videos, too, of course…what’s an open mic blog post without a youtube video or two? ;]
